2nd-hand Stickers and Unnecessary Purchases

People who don't know what they're buying can be convinced to buy almost anything. This I've learned at a very young age when I got really successful (for a 4-year old) selling 2nd hand stickers to other kindergarten kids in my school.

The other kids paid more attention to the fact that "it's a sticker" (hey ma, it sticks! way cool), and that it has a picture of their favourite cartoon hero, than on the fact that it was 2nd hand and it won't last for too long. Besides, it doesn't cost that much for the kid, only Rp 500.00 (back then it was equivalent to US 50 cents).

Of course, today's kindergarten kids are smarter. They can go online, look at websites to search for what they really want and ask their mommies for pocket money to get the iPod shuffle they've really craving for. But you know what I'm trying to get at. Sometimes we don't really know what we're buying, we're too focused on what we like about a product that we forgot whatever else there is to know about that product. In the end, we convince ourselves that the product is worth the price and we make the purchase.
